Practical and field learning
Practical learning may include safe tool use, ecological restoration, agriculture, growing, maintenance and other demonstrated competencies needed in real work and community settings.
Learning can begin before the Studio is built.
The first step is not choosing from a fixed course catalogue. It is understanding what you want to achieve, what you already know, and what support could help you move forward.
The learning conversation begins with MamaDEX. The initial enquiry helps us understand your goal, your current education or experience, your practical interests, and any access or support needs that may affect the route.
From there, EduTower can help shape a learning plan suited to the learner rather than forcing the learner into a predetermined programme.
People learn for different reasons. One person may want practical competence. Another may need foundation learning, academic progression, professional development, teaching support or a route into research. EduTower is designed to build the route around the real goal.
Practical learning may include safe tool use, ecological restoration, agriculture, growing, maintenance and other demonstrated competencies needed in real work and community settings.
Community learning may include food growing, digital readiness, foundation study, local teaching and other capabilities developed with participating educators and MamaDEX communities.
Where appropriate, a learner may progress towards school-equivalent study, diplomas, degrees, postgraduate learning or professional development through the authorised institution responsible for that pathway.
EduTower may also support applied ecological and technical research, educator and assessor development, technology demonstration, knowledge transfer and future fields not yet listed.
These are examples of EduTower's breadth. They are not a complete programme list and do not mean that every pathway is currently active in every place.
Tell MamaDEX what you want to learn and where you are starting.
Clarify the goal, readiness, support needs and the kind of learning route that may fit.
The route may be practical, community-based, academic, professional, research-led or a combination.
Support and assessment depend on the pathway, the educator or provider, and what is genuinely available locally or remotely.
Further learning or a formal qualification may follow where the learner's readiness, evidence and provider requirements support it.
Where a formal academic route is appropriate, EduVisa or another authorised institution may provide that pathway. EduVisa is not the learner's front door and must not bypass MamaDEX enrolment and EduTower guidance.
Depending on the pathway and the evidence produced, EduTower may issue appropriately scoped participation records, certificates of completion, certificates of demonstrated competence or EduTower micro-credentials for its own learning.
Unless a specific programme states otherwise, EduTower-issued participation, completion, demonstrated-competence and micro-credentials are non-formal Buktika records of learning. They do not carry South African NQF credits and are not qualifications accredited by a South African Quality Council. Formal qualifications are awarded only by the authorised institution responsible for that pathway.
Not every learning experience produces a credential. A credential must match the teaching, assessment and demonstrated evidence behind it.
Formal school, diploma, degree, postgraduate and professional qualifications are awarded by the authorised academic or professional institution responsible for that pathway. EduTower does not award another institution's qualification.
Depending on the learner and the pathway, some learning may begin through a learner's own laptop or mobile device, supported online study, local guidance, practical teaching, community learning or a participating MamaDEX centre where suitable support is genuinely available.
Not every MamaDEX centre currently has devices, connectivity, educators, study space or an active learning programme. The initial learning conversation is used to understand what is actually possible rather than promise what is not yet available.
The EduTower Studio model has been designed and costed and is ready for funded rollout. No physical EduTower Studio has yet been deployed.
The Studio is intended to deepen learning through connectivity, devices and shared screens, supported study space, practical teaching equipment, research and demonstration capability, and stronger local educator and mentor capacity.
You do not need to choose a course or institution first. Begin with your goal, what you already know, and the support you may need. MamaDEX starts the conversation. EduTower helps shape the pathway.
This is an initial enquiry, not a guarantee of admission, programme availability, employment, placement or direct registration with an external institution.
